Originally built in 1913 as The Church of the United Brethren in Christ, this stone church located at 304 South Trenton Avenue in Tulsa, Oklahoma has served as a studio for some of the world’s biggest musical acts like Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Dwight Twilley, JJ Cale, The GAP Band, Freddie King, Tom Petty, Phoebe Snow and Peter Tosh. Leon Russell, the legendary Oklahoma musician purchased the church in 1972 and turned it into a world-class recording studio for his label, Studio Records.
I was asked to create a logo that honored the initial vision and strategy of Leon Russell to aid in their goal to revitalize this “Pearl North” with The Church Studio being anchor structure. The studio will present museum-quality exhibits, memorabilia, and decor and foster community engagement through tours, educational programs, and events as well as continuing it’s plan to be a world-class analog recording studio.
